Work in progress…

And so it begins …

The first hesitant steps of a new series.

Loving to paint women again, in the gentle chaos and solitude of my studio. Enjoying the freedom of mixed media, and working on the first layers of gesso and more, on smooth wood panels.

For company, wonderful Paco Pena playing spirit moving flamenco …and my much loved woof, young Jamie.

In these early stages – all the options are open, and so begin to work organically – with one mark following another, searching for balance and the unexpected happy accident.

The challenge grows in parallel with the development of the painting…often a fast and confident beginning – then as the layers become deeper, more and more time is spent thinking and pondering than in painting itself.

The outcome is unknown! One hopes, but only the painting itself will reveal all.

Current & forthcoming exhibitions

After an annus horribilis in 2017, Maggy relocated to Rutland in November, and is only just beginning to paint again, but 2018 has begun well, with three successes so far:

The first running against very tough competition in the largest water media competition in Europe, she had two paintings selected for the 206th annual exhibition of the prestigious Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. These were hung at the Mall Galleries, London SWI in April.

Then the second, as a newly selected Exhibitor Member of the Welland Valley Art Society, she contributed seven paintings for the Spring Exhibition, held at Stamford Art Centre in May.

And then most recently, amidst tough competition from nearly 1000 entries, she has had two paintings selected for the final of the Broadway Festival Art Competition, which was judged by Norman Ackroyd RA, and selected and hung in the finalist’s exhibition, held at Little Buckland Gallery in June.
